about strangepop
ENGLAND'S FINEST COMPOSER?
Step into a World of pure Genius – Opulence for the masses.
Jason Strange is the English Classical Composer and Creator of Strangepop.
Disillusioned with mainstream classical? Delight yourself instead with Chamber music infused with percussive rhythms.
Not since 1980’s Rondo Veneziano has anyone confronted the limitations of the legacy composers
Jason nails the ultimate C Major symphony in Salt Plain Rescue, rarely evidenced since Mozart or Stravinsky.
Descended from a Royal Priesthood, Jason conducts his Celestial Monks and hand picked Virtuoso’s.
For the discerning, albums are in superior CD quality, accompanied by glorious art – to complete your collection.
Jason is married with two sons & two daughters and lives in the Surrey Hills
1978
Jason receives a music scholarship to Feltonfleet School, protege to Sir Walter Taylor. He becomes the leading choir and concert soloist for five years, Taylor ensures he performs only the very hardest pieces, by Schubert and Brahms.
1983
Jason attends Reeds School and is privately tutored by renowned organist, the late Richard Coulson. Together they discover mutual interests in all things Bach: Tocatta & Fugue, perhaps the second component to the Strangepop Sound.
1985
Jason specially travels to Genoa to sample the culture of the Conservatoire and immerse himself in the works of Gian Piero Reverberi.
Rondo, Chamber and Baroque are assimilated as further building blocks to his developing creative language.
1987
Jason attends Brooklands College and is influenced by Blues Singer and Communication Studies Lecturer Rob Brown. Brown teaches all his students to view everything in life as a 'Text'. These were the heyday for venues such as The Southampton PH Surbiton & The Grey Horse, Kingston to go see live blues.
1989
1989 is the year of the death of Herbert Von Karajan, arguably the greatest conductor of the 20th Century. Jason makes a particular study of his conducting style and how to communicate with 1st & 2nd Strings with eyes closed. Jason considers the role of sweeping strings as evidenced in Ultravox's Vienna and Barrington Pheloung's Morse.
1993
Disappearing from the public eye, Jason spends 25 years diligently working on Orchestration. During travels in Europe, he is befriended by the Ordo Fratrum Praedicatorum - Dominican Monks, bestowed with celestial powers.
2018
Finally he returns to England to record the product of this extra terrestrial alliance. Strangepop is born. Jason shortlists select musicians for his live recording of 'Charters' in Vienna. These choice musicians form the final line up.
